Air Ride Fittings Help
Welcome to the Air Ride Fittings help page! On this page, we aim to inform and discuss all the different types of air ride fittings.
WHY ARE ALL THE DAMN SIZES IN IMPERIAL!
We get asked this a lot...So let us start from where Airlift originated from, the USA! Over the pond, they use IMPERIAL measurement units, inches, pounds, and feet, whereas here in the UK we use the METRIC measurement units such as millimeters, meters, and grams! So therefore when Airlift manufactures there management systems they use IMPERIAL.
HOW WOULD I KNOW WHICH SIZE I HAVE?
When you ordered your air ride kit the dealer should have established which size you opted for. You can also check the purchase order, this should display either 1/4" or 3/8".
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF FITTINGS?
There are many different types of fittings, but the main ones we use are PTC (Push To Connect) or NPT (National Pipe Taper).
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT THREAD/PIPE SIZES?
The main sizes that we use are 1/4" and 3/8" we can supply you with 1/2" or 1/8" but this will be a special order.
WHAT IS THE THREAD FOR A SUSPENSION AIRBAG?
The typical thread for a suspension airbag is 1/4" NPT, although there are various sizes. If you are unsure of the size you need please contact us.
DO I NEED TO USE PTFE TAPE OR SEALANT?
Some of our products feature an 'O' ring seal. This 'O' ring seal is perfectly adequate to seal the fitting. PTFE or sealant paste is NOT required.
WHAT ARE YOUR ASSEMBLY GUIDELINES?
Tapered pipe threads (NPT) seal by contact of threads. Prepared fittings should engage about 2 turns by hand and at least 5–6 turns before reaching the recommended torque. Failure to reach minimum engagement usually indicates poorly formed or damaged threads.
